Amarr Cable & Drum Replacement Nationwide

Amarr Cable & Drum Replacement: The Las Vegas Owner’s Guide

Amarr cable and drum replacement in Las Vegas typically runs $130-$250 installed, and we stock the common Amarr sizes on every truck for same-day completion. Most homeowners notice the problem when their door starts dropping unevenly or the cables look frayed where they wrap around the drum. The door tells you what it needs. You just have to listen before you start ordering parts.

Which Amarr Models This Applies To

Amarr has used several drum profiles across their product lines, and matching the wrong one will throw your door’s lift geometry off within a week. The stamped steel 4000-series drums found on Stratford and Lincoln doors from the early 2000s carry a different cable groove pitch than the cast-iron style used on later Oak Summit and Hillcrest models. If your door was built before 2010, check the drum face for a raised casting number, usually near the hub, we see a lot of 8-32, 12-32, and the occasional 11-36 out in Summerlin and Henderson.

For Amarr doors, we generally recommend OEM-equivalent drums from DDM Garage Doors or Overhead Door Parts rather than generic hardware-store stock, the tolerances on cable groove depth matter more than most people realize. Amarr’s own part numbers follow a pattern like 1540 or 1560, where the first two digits indicate drum circumference in inches. We carry both on the truck, along with 1/8-inch and 5/32-inch galvanized aircraft cable in 7×19 construction, which is what Amarr specified for residential doors in this climate.

Signs Your Amarr Cable & Drum Replacement Is Failing

  • Door hangs crooked when opening or closing. One cable has slipped or frayed on its drum, so the left and right sides lift at different rates. In Las Vegas, we see this most often on south-facing doors where daily thermal expansion works the cables loose.
  • Cable unwinds from the drum and bunches at the bottom bracket. The drum grooves have worn smooth or the cable has developed flat spots from rubbing against a misaligned track. Either way, the winding geometry is shot.
  • Grinding or clicking sound from the header area. The drum is spinning on a galled or cracked hub, or the set screws have backed out and the drum is walking on the torsion tube. This one gets expensive fast if you keep running the opener.
  • Visible rust or corrosion on the cable strands. Desert dust holds moisture against the steel, and the alkaline soil around Las Vegas accelerates pitting. Once you see orange dust at the bottom bracket, the cable is already compromised internally.
  • Door feels heavier than usual or the opener strains. A cracked drum lets the cable slip under load, so the spring’s counterbalance never fully transfers to the door. The opener does the work the spring was designed for, and that motor will not last.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Service Price Range
Amarr cable replacement (single) $130-$190
Amarr cable replacement (pair) $180-$250
Amarr drum replacement (single) $150-$220
Amarr cable & drum set (both sides) $220-$340

The range depends on whether we are matching to an existing torsion assembly or the whole system needs rebalancing. Every cable and drum job includes new winding and stationary cones inspected for wear, proper tensioning to the door’s actual weight, and lubrication of all moving hardware. We state the flat price before touching a tool, and the work carries our 90-Day Done Right Promise in writing. No surprises on the bill.

DIY or Call Us?

There is a safe middle ground here. You can visually inspect the cables for fraying, check that drums are tight to the tube, and verify the door is disconnected from the opener before you do either. What you should not do is release a torsion spring to swap a drum yourself. The stored energy in a standard 16-foot door spring will hospitalize you, and we have seen homeowners in Las Vegas lose fingers trying to save a hundred bucks.

If the cables are simply off the drums but intact, sometimes we can reseat them without full replacement. If the drum is cracked or the cable is frayed, the parts need to change. We carry Amarr-compatible cable and drum sets on every truck, so most jobs finish in one visit. Call (844) 548-5142 and we will tell you whether it sounds like a reseat or a replacement before we head out.
